FEED AFRICA INITIATIVE (FAI)

ACTIVITY OVERVIEW

Feed Africa Initiative works with small holder farmers, agribusiness institutions, county, national and international agricultural agencies to address the problem of food insecurity in Kenya and entire Africa.
FAI aims at bringing farmers to mass production of food through educating farmers on the best agricultural enterprises to engage on depending on the ecological conditions of their land.
FAI also focuses on availing the relevant technology to the small holder farmers to improve on their agricultural productivity especially on livestock production through offering the services of improved sires to improve indigenous breeds. This includes cattle, goats and poultry.
Another issue addressed by FAI is encouraging farmers to grow some crops which have been ignored and their production continue declining. Interestingly these crops have relatively high nutritional and economical value compared to dominant crop maize and also they thrive the best even under poor conditions. These are crops like millet , cassava and sorghum.

FAI  GOALS

  • Making African farmers carry out sustainable agriculture using appropriate ways of farming.

  • Offering consultancy services on agriculture on best cultivars to be grown on areas with different ecological  conditions.

  • Sensitizing farmers on important ignored food crops that can substitute the dominant maize crop as food crop in Africa. Such crop include millet, sorghum ,cassava among others

  • Livestock production based on controlled breeding, improved productivity by offering breeding services and education

  • Sensitizing farmers to carry out commercial agriculture other than the dominance subsistence farming.

  • General education to farmers on good agricultural practices ranging from the time of land preparation, planting, harvesting, post harvesting management and marketing.

  • Linking the farmers with appropriate agencies and participants in the sector of agriculture and the entire economy through contracting  and integration.

  • Getting the markets for agricultural produce for the farmers who adopt commercialized agriculture in the rural set up.

  • Value addition of farmers produce through grading and processing.

  • Fighting against deforestation due to rampant burning by teaching farmers and making them engage in other viable economic activities.

MEMBERSHIP

Feed Africa Initiative is committed in making rural farmers achieve great miles in agricultural productivity.

Despite having great potential and ability to produce from the land, many young men are still leaving below poverty line due to lack of opportunities in collar jobs. This is due to lack of information about the potentiality in the agricultural sector.

We are committed to helping any individual, farmer groups, organizations and governments in full realization of employment oppoturnities in the agriculure.

Thus we have open membership policy giving a door to all farming and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

Why Partner with Us

Feed Africa Initiative offers great incentivesn in agriculture.

Under our pillar projects, there is alot of benefits we are offering to the farmers,

a) Value Chain- The market kand prices of the rural agriculture has since time immemorial a challenge to many farmers. FAI is working on establishment of a strong value chain aimed at marketing farmers' produce. This goes together with establishing processing plants especially for tomatoes and fruits to minimize losses many farmers incur during the peak production of these commodities.

.b) Breeding Services- FAI is working hard to improve the quality and value of livestock production amongst all our member farmers. Nzouni Ranch Farms owns a large number of super sires(male animals e.g. bulls, he goats and cockrels). These are given to members in order to improve their local breeds,

The motivating factor here is to create a uniform breed of livestock within our regions of operations characterized by early maturity and market weight, colour and size while the general management practices of the new breed remain the same as that the local breed.

c)Agricultural advice - FAI has well informed personell that helps our farmers in the selection of agricultural enterprice and the management .
